Veuve Clicquot

Brut NV

One of the most consistently lovely non-vintage Champagne available.  Makes a great hostess gift as its’ quality and prestige are well known.

This is among the more recognizable NV Champagne in a blind tasting as the overt aromas of yeast and toasted brioche are hallmarks of the wine.  However, close your eyes and smell beyond the first impression and you’ll be rewarded with a subtle melange of limestone, golden delicious apples, cider spice and savory cucumber that just begs for a dollop of caviar or a few raw oysters.  Again on the palate there is the wonderful yeasty character along with a sense of non-salty saltine crackers, bosc pear, an impression of yuzu-soy sauce and clear white cherry flavors.  There is a spring apple blossom finish that again hits with both the yeast and toasted brioche flavors.  It is long and fine.  While the blend consists of 2/3’s red grapes (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier), the smaller proportion of Chardonnay asserts itself to the point that it dominates the the red fruit flavors without discouraging their influence.
