Savennières RAM Ch. de Chamboureau 2002

100% Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley.  The La Rouche aux Moines (RAM) area of Savennières is noted for the influencial quantity of local schist and volcanic rock in the soils which contributed a beautiful minerality to the wines grown here.  The Chateau de Chamboureau plot is made up of 50+ year old vines and is located just east of the famed Coulée de Serrant property.  Soulez is committed to producing wines that emphasize the dry, smoky and flinty character of great Savennières.

WS 92 pts., “Seems mature at first, with a creamy texture and notes of grapefruit and persimmon, but quickly shows it has some time to go, with a firm spice and bracing mineral edge, along wih notes of butter, cardamom and chamomile.  Drink now through 2011.”
