Aragone IGT 2004

40% Sangiovese, 25% Alicante, 25% Syrah, 10% Carigna.  The 2004 marks the first vintage of the top wine from this estate.  Aragone was created to be unlike other ‘Super-Tuscan’, rather to create a unique and particular blend by incorporating Mediterranean varietals such as  Alicante, Syrah and Carignan.  The vineyards are planted at a high density of 6000 vines per hectare and the soils are rich with limestone and minerals.  The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in 100% oak barrels.

WA 92 points, The 2004 Aragone is an explosive wine.  It bursts from the glass with a brooding, almost menacing nose of tar and scorched earth.  Deceptively medium-bodied, it presents an exciting array of ripe dark fruit, toasted oak, spices and earthy flavors on a powerful, richly structured frame that closes with enough freshness to make me think that it will develop additional complexity in the bottle.”
