Grable Vineyards

Chardonnay House Creek 2004

Big and rich with ripe fruit well balanced by a supportive structure and well integrated oak.  The nose butterscotch, pear and apple blossoms, and flinty-minerals. The extra year of aging in bottle this wine receives has smoothed out the palate beautifully, it attacks with more pear, apple and minerals but adds a caramel note and a bit of mulling spice and prickly pear on the finish.  Grable Vineyards is a very small winery making exclusively Chardonnay from the Knights Valley AVA.  The fruit comes from the House Creek vineyard planted with a mix of Dijon and Old Wente clones.  The wine is aged for 11 months in French oak with full malolactic, and then aged a further 12 months in bottle before release.  Even with the tiny production of this winery, it is making a big name for itself and has even been served at the prestigious James Beard Foundation.
