Finca Sandoval

Manchuela 2004

83% Syrah, 9% Mourvedre, 8% Bobal from a vineyard planted at a density of 3000 vines/ha and at a high altitude of 2250 feet.  The vineyards were planted in 1998 to a selection of top quality clones with the Syrah vines being supplied by a Chateauneuf-du-Pape nursery.  The various types of soils present here are very poor and each type is vinified and aged separately to be blended after the wines begins to show their true nature.

IWC 93 points, Dark Violet.  Inky, powerful, brooding nose opens slowly to show sexy, intense floral and oak spice-inflected notes of cassis, blackberry and cherry.  Wonderfully perfumed and exotic, with strong mineral accenting the deep dark fruit flavors; complementary notes of bitter chocolate, violet and cola add interest.  Finishes with superb intensity, sweetness, clarity and length, with lingering notes of candied licorice, graphite and exotic spices.
