Comte Audoin de Dampierre

Grand Cru Family Reserve 2000

Originally a bottling that winemaker Audoin de Dampierre made strictly for friends and family, the praise it received persuaded him to began bottling it for the market.  The grapes used are 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards, making this essentially a prestige cuvee at almost half the price.  The wine exemplifies balance with an ethereal sense of harmony on the palate, a fine mouse and a beautiful, elegant finish.

Steven Tanzer 92: Yellow-gold.  Deep, smoky, expansive bouquet of honeysuckle, white peach, orange rind, yellow plum and buttery brioche.  Chewy, weighty and dense, with intense orchard fruit flavors accented by citrus and baking spice notes.  Tightens up on the back end, finishing with excellent focus and a zesty note of white pepper.  This boasts impressive concentration and superb length.
